Open Core Summit is the world’s first and largest gathering across the COSS (commercial open source software) category, serving as a platform for bringing together a diverse range of participants, from builders and founders to enterprises, developers, investors, and analysts.
The summit focuses on leveraging the power of an open source core model to construct and build differentiated, capital-efficient, and positive-sum ecosystems for the future.
OCS 2023 offered a wide-ranging agenda, including keynote presentations and multiple breakout tracks focused on various aspects such as product, community, enterprise, strategy, finance, marketing, and sales.
Co-hosted and co-organized by OSS Capital and Automattic, the event featured amazingly innovative companies such as Cal.com, Supabase, Bluesky, Formbricks, Wasmer, Documenso, ResearchHub, W4 Games, AppFlowy, and much more.
During these two days, our team members represented the company at OpenBB’s booth and showcased our products, from our open source core comprising the OpenBB Terminal, Platform, and Bot, to our recently released enterprise product, the OpenBB Terminal Pro (sign up for early access here).
Most importantly, we had the chance to share our vision and our purpose with the world.
During busy months, when every team member is so focused on their daily tasks and long to-do lists, sometimes it’s easy to forget where we come from and why we’re doing this. But that should be avoided at all costs.
At the end of the day, this event was an opportunity to stop and see the bigger picture. And it was incredibly rewarding to feel the audience’s excitement when we described OpenBB.
From a side project born during our CEO’s holiday break, it quickly evolved into a respected open source project with now over 25,000 starts on GitHub, 200 contributors, and a clear vision: democratize investment research for everyone, everywhere. On top of that, we recently started giving early access to our first commercial product.
So the journey has been amazing indeed.
On the second day of the OCS, our CEO gave a technical talk on the Main Stage about financial AI agents using the OpenBB Platform (stay tuned for a blog post on that topic soon!).
For a remote team like ours, I believe these events are even more special. This time, we had team members flying from Vietnam, Portugal, and Michigan, US, to meet those already based in the Bay Area.
Spending time with them and getting to know a bit more of their personal side was, without any doubt, one of the highlights of this week.
Overall, it was truly inspiring to witness the power of the open source community, hear about so many incredible projects, and meet so many brilliant people.
I just hope to get the chance to experience many moments like this in the future, and I look forward to continuing to contribute to this movement.
The future is now open source.
